A Dynamic Braking Unit (DBU) is an electronic braking device used with compatible Variable Speed Drives.
During deceleration or overhauling operation, the motor may regenerate energy into the VSD's DC bus, causing its voltage to rise.
The DBU monitors the DC bus and switches regenerated energy into a correctly sized braking resistor, where it is dissipated as heat.
An input choke, also called an AC line reactor, is an inductive component installed on the electrical supply side of a VSD.
It helps reduce input current distortion and limits certain electrical stresses caused by supply disturbances.
Correctly selected input chokes can help protect the VSD's input rectifier and improve reliability.
A braking resistor converts regenerated electrical energy into heat during controlled motor deceleration.
It works with a compatible built-in braking chopper or external DBU to manage energy returned from the motor.
Larger applications may require resistor banks with suitable resistance, power ratings, thermal protection and ventilation.
